  6. This is the READ.ME file for TurboDLDDemo v1.01. It contains
  7. useful information regarding installation and usage.

  10. *** Installation of This Software ***
  11. -------------------------------------
  12. In order for TurboDLDDemo to work properly, you MUST use the INSTALL
  13. utility provided in the self-extracting TURBDEMO.EXE or TRBDEM.EXE file
  14. to install TurboDLDDemo. If you do not use the INSTALL.EXE program,
  15. you will not have access to the 20-minute daily TurboDLDDeluxe demo
  16. mode until a day has passed.

  19. Distribution of This Software
  20. ------------------------------------

  22. This demonstration version of TurboDLDDeluxe may be freely distributed as 
  23. long as it remains wholly unmodified with all copyrights attached. A complete 
  24. self-extracting version of TurboDLDDemo is available from Panacea's 
  25. BBS (603-432-5193) or from CompuServe's ACAD Forum for those interested in 
  26. distributing the software in a more portable form.

  29. TurboDLDDemo
  30. -----------------

  32. TurboDLDDemo is a demonstration version of Panacea's TurboDLDDeluxe
  33. software. For 20 minutes per day you may experience the benefits of
  34. TurboDLDDeluxe, Panacea's popular Display List software. After the 
  35. daily 20 minutes has been reached, TurboDLDDemo reverts to a non-display 
  36. list ADI 4.2 driver. TurboDLDDemo does not carry a time limit for display 
  37. and rendering with 3D Studio and AutoShade 2.0 with RenderMan.

  51. I - TIPS/ERRATA/FEATURES/REVISIONS

  55. DLDCFG and AutoCAD R12
  56. ----------------------
  57.  
  58. The DLDCFG environment variable is used by TurboDLD to locate its
  59. configuration files. DLDCFG must be set for AutoCAD R10/386, R11,
  60. AutoShade, and 3D Studio.
  61.  
  62. When using R12, however, DLDCFG is not required. TurboDLD will look
  63. for its configuration files in the same directory as the RCTURBOD.EXP
  64. file. However, if DLDCFG is set, TurboDLD will use DLDCFG to locate
  65. its configuration files.

  68. Upgrading from DLD386
  69. ---------------------
  70.  
  71. If you are using R12, you do not need to run DLD386's FASTACAD.BAT
  72. first. FASTACAD.BAT sets four environment variables including DLDCFG,
  73. DSPADI, RDPADI, and RCPADI. None of these environment variables are
  74. needed with R12 and TurboDLD. If you set these variables in your 
  75. AUTOEXEC.BAT or a batch file used to start R12, we strongly recommend 
  76. that you remove them.

  79. - Problems with the raster cursor and S3 boards. If the raster cursor
  80.   on the AutoCAD graphics screen leaves residue, it is most likely 
  81.   caused by a conflict between the S3 board and another device trying
  82.   to use COM3 or COM4. Common culprits are modem boards using COM3 or
  83.   COM4. If you are having this problem, the only solution is to remap
  84.   the offending device to use COM1 or COM2 or remove it.

  87. - For those persons with low CPU RAM and less than 20mb of available hard
  88.   disk space you should use the -SWAPCHK ON switch to configure AutoCAD. 
  89.   This switch will give you the option of saving your drawing when AutoCAD
  90.   runs out of swap space.   The way you configure this is to change
  91.   into your AutoCAD program sub-directory and at the prompt type:

  96. - If you are experiencing slow mouse/digitizer response, try
  97.   deleting all characters on the Double Click command line of
  98.   the button(s) that are giving you problems.
  99.

  101. - For graphics boards using the S3 '801/805 video chip, we
  102.   recommend not using the 32,000 color Display mode. Unpredictable
  103.   results will occur.
  104.  
  105.  
  106. - When using some ATI VGA Wonder boards in a dual screen system, but
  107.   you want a single screen AutoCAD configuration, make sure that you start
  108.   AutoCAD from the VGA screen. Otherwise, flip screens will result in a 
  109.   weird combination of monochrome and VGA screens.

  111.  
  112. - When configuring for an NEC Multi Graphics Engine, add the following
  113.   line to the DLDSETUP.DAT file created by the TurboDLD setup program.
  114.

  117.   The above line may be placed anywhere in the file provided it is not 
  118.   preceded by a ;.
  119.  
  120.  
  121. - When using TurboDLD with AutoCAD R12, it is not necessary to
  122.   run the FASTACAD.BAT file copied during installation. This file
  123.   is included for AutoShade only. Likewise the FAST3DS.BAT file is
  124.   used for 3D Studio configuration. TurboDLD will be found automatically
  125.   via the AutoCAD 12's ACADDRV environment variable. Please be sure
  126.   that ACADDRV includes the path to the TurboDLD sub-directory if 
  127.   you did not install the driver into \ACAD\DRV.
  128.

  130. - If using a TIGA graphics board with 3D Studio, we highly recommend
  131.   that you configure your display and rendering resolutions to be the
  132.   same. Some TIGA boards don't cope well with mode switches in the 
  133.   3DS environment.
  134.

  136. - Also for TIGA graphics board users, if you are using AutoCAD 10/386,
  137.   it will be necessary to run the AutoCAD 11 NEWDX.EXE utility to update
  138.   the Phar Lap DOS extender.
  139.  
  140.  
  141. - Please be aware that there is a C2 revision to AutoCAD R12. This
  142.   revision corrects various digitizer and plotter problems.
  143.  
  144.  
  145. - The DLDVIEW command now includes dialog box support for AutoCAD R12.
  146.   Please note that some of the available menu option boxes do not have any
  147.   effect on the use of this command. Many thanks to D. Scott Peterson
  148.   for his input on this feature.

  151. - Rendering Resolution options will be available only when
  152.   configuring a Rendering device, not directly from the Graphics
  153.   Board/Resolution Menu as indicated in the Installation Guide.
  154.   Rendering options will appear when AutoCAD R12's AVE Render
  155.   is first configured or when configuring 3D Studio or AutoShade.
  156.   It may be necessary to reconfigure AVE Render by using the
  157.   RCONFIG command at the AutoCAD command prompt. Also note that
  158.   TurboDLD is a combined Display/Rendering driver therefore, you
  159.   should select that option from AVE Render's configuration menu.

  162. - Features included in this version, Real-time panning,
  163.   Drawing Viewer, ZoomPreview spy glass. See TURBODLD.DOC
  164.   for complete details on how to use these features.

  167. - Erasing small objects may result in a few stray pixels being
  168.   left on the screen. Issue a REDRAW to remove them from the
  169.   screen.
  170.  
  171.  
  172. - When running at greater than 8 bits-per-pixel (256 colors),
  173.   setting physical colors via DLDCOLOR will have no visible
  174.   effect until an SAVE and EXIT occurs.
  175.  
  176.  
  177. - The PMODELINE width is as large as possible given the
  178.   current screen dimensions and font character size. If less
  179.   area is desired, switch to a smaller font size.
  180.  
  181.  
  182. - There is no longer a Remove or Overwrite mode for the Display
  183.   List. TurboDLD functions as the Remove mode did in previous DLD
  184.   versions, eliminating flashing of erased vectors, without affecting
  185.   performance.

  188. - The BPCACHE is normally disabled. Enabling BPCACHE will only make a
  189.   noticeable performance difference when using TIGA-based graphics boards.

  192. II. What if I Have Problems?
  193. ============================

  195. If you encounter a problem with TurboDLD, please try to
  196. duplicate, and document, the steps required to reproduce it.
  197. As you document the problem, list your current system
  198. configuration, including video board, resolution, number of
  199. colors configured, etc. Also, if possible, try to duplicate
  200. the problem with an AutoCAD sample file so that we can
  201. easily try to re-create the problem on our equipment. To contact
